Booking an appointment

We work with all current full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, placement students, and graduates who left up to five years ago.

You can book an appointment by

  • calling us on 0114 225 3752
  • popping in to see us at the Careers and Employability Centre (city) or Heart of the Campus (collegiate)
  • or you can check out availability online

We are open on weekdays throughout term time and vacation, with early evening sessions at city campus on Wednesdays from 5-7pm. If you are unable to come in to the university we can arrange a telephone or Skype appointment. 

Careers Consultant Appointment 

A 45 minute appointment to discuss any issues relating to your future career plans:

  • your potential career options
  • how to decide what to do
  • how to market your skills effectively
  • how to realise your full potential
  • postgraduate study options in the UK or overseas

Employability Adviser Appointment 

A 30 minute appointment to discuss anything related to your job search. Employability Advisers also offer appointments to current students within each faculty . You can book through the relevant faculty helpdesk (in person or by telephone) or onlineThey will also be able to tell you where your appointment will be. If you are unsure please call the Careers and Employability Centre on 0114 225 3752 and we will be happy to advise you.

What you can do to prepare for your appointment:

  • prioritise - there may not be time to look at all the issues you want to discuss in one session
  • bring a paper copy of any relevant documentation eg. CV, application form, job description
  • complete as much as you can before the appointment using our online advice
  • Remember you don't need to have all the answers  - we are here to help

A limited number of 'bookable on the day' appointments are available with Employability Advisers at City and Collegiate - check out the latest availability online through UniHub. We also offer:

Practice Interviews

60 minute practice interviews followed by feedback, designed to improve your performance and confidence. These can be tailored to a specific interview you have coming up, or a more general practice opportunity. Call in to the Careers and Employability Centre or phone 0114 225 3752 to book (practice interviews are not available to book online).

CV drop-in 12 - 1pm, City Campus (check with the Careers and Employability Centre for availability over summer)

15 minute slot for quick advice on your CV (please bring a paper copy with you). No booking required but this is a very popular service, and a maximum of 4 students can be seen. 

Career Focus sessions

A wide variety of sessions , presentations and workshps designed to enhance your employability - planning your future, enhancing your skills, being enterprising and the popular 'routes into' series.  All available to book via UniHub. Search 'Career Focus'
