Reasons to study

There are many reasons to choose postgraduate study: from love of the subject; gaining specialist knowledge and experience of a particular area of work; increasing your chances of gaining employment to enrolling on a postgraduate course that is essential for your chosen career. Visa requirements

If you require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK you must check the requirements and be sure you are eligible to study for your chosen course. If you have any questions about applying for a Tier 4 visa you can contact the International Experience Team.

Postgraduate Fees

Studying for a Postgraduate qualification can be very expensive and can vary according course studied, university attended and your nationality; visit UKCISA and individual universities' websites for further information.  

Postgraduate funding for International students

Funding for postgraduate courses is very competitive:

  • more funding is available for research degrees
  • awards are most commonly given to students with outstanding academic grades and high quality applications
  • some funding sources are restricted to UK or EU nationals but there are a range of funding opportunities aimed specifically for international students available at university level, for example at Sheffield Hallam and through regional and national schemes. Check individual universities' websites for these
  • the British Council website has links to country specific potential sources of funding.  In addition, check your home country for any financial support they may offer.
