Those working in the creative media sector generally tend to be independent, creative thinkers and are often self-employed and/or in occupations involving project work and short term contracts. This means that it is essential that you are pro-active in your job search.
In the 21st century, the most efficient way of networking with others in the photographic industry is through social/professional websites. They are invaluable as a means of seeking out professional opportunities, showcasing your portfolio and keeping abreast of events and current issues facing the industry.
