Networking and Social Media in Photography

Those working in the creative media sector generally tend to be independent, creative thinkers and are often self-employed and/or in occupations involving project work and short term contracts. This means that it is essential that you are pro-active in your job search.

In the 21st century, the most efficient way of networking with others in the photographic industry is through social/professional websites. They are invaluable as a means of seeking out professional opportunities, showcasing your portfolio and keeping abreast of events and current issues facing the industry. In addition to the more mainstream social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, there are many more that are creative industry focused (see the Suggested Links box).
